MOCREO Smart System

BLE Connection & OTA

Contact Support

On iPhone 17 series phones, the MOCREO Smart App may fail to connect directly to some Bluetooth LE Sensors with older firmware, so changing Sensor settings or upgrading Sensor firmware fails.

Problem Overview

iPhone 17 series phones (iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air) have a compatibility issue with the Bluetooth LE chip in some MOCREO Sensors. If the Sensor firmware is not new enough, the MOCREO Smart App on these phones cannot connect directly to the Sensor. This affects two tasks:

  • Changing Sensor settings that the App writes over Bluetooth. For example, opening Alarm Settings for an ST8 always starts a direct Bluetooth connection, whether or not a Hub is used.
  • Upgrading Sensor firmware (OTA).

Adding a Sensor is not affected. If the direct connection fails during setup, the App completes setup through the MOCREO cloud.

This article does not apply when

  • The Sensor is already added, but its detail page shows -- or no chart. This is usually because no Hub is uploading the Sensor's data. See View Live Data and History.
  • The connection also fails on a phone that is not an iPhone 17 series model. See Ble Connection Failed.

Affected Sensors

The issue only occurs on iPhone 17 series phones when the Sensor firmware is at or below the version below.

SensorConnects on iPhone 17 when firmware is
ST5, ST6, ST8Higher than 4.0.0
ST9Higher than 5.0.0
ST10, MS1Higher than 3.0.0
SW2Higher than 1.0.0

MOCREO Solutions

Solution 1: Update the App

Update the MOCREO Smart App to the latest version and try again.

Solution 2: Use Another Phone or Tablet

Install the MOCREO Smart App on a phone or tablet that is not an iPhone 17 series model, sign in with the same MOCREO account, and change the setting or upgrade the firmware from that device.

Solution 3: Upgrade the Sensor Firmware

After the Sensor firmware is upgraded past the version in the table above, it connects normally on iPhone 17 series phones. Because the upgrade itself needs a Bluetooth connection, run it from a device that is not an iPhone 17 series model. See Update Device Firmware.

If you only have iPhone 17 series devices, contact customer support at [email protected].
