How Should I Deploy My Sensor?¶
This document addresses common deployment scenarios and frequently asked questions.
Refrigerator/Freezer Deployment¶
Part 1: Sensor Body Placement¶
If you need to monitor temperature inside a refrigerator/freezer using a MOCREO Sensor, first check whether your sensor has an external probe.
For Sensors with External Probes¶
For sensors equipped with external probes (e.g., ST5, ST9, ST10), deploy as follows: - Place the external probe inside the refrigerator/freezer - Keep the main sensor body outside the appliance
Magnetic Mount Solution: A MOCREO user has created a magnetic mount box for ST series sensors, which makes it easy to place the sensor body next to the refrigerator without taking up space.
When Door Seal is Affected¶
If the external probe cable prevents the refrigerator door from sealing properly, we recommend placing both the sensor body and external probe inside the refrigerator.
⚠️ Waterproof Protection Required
Important: Most MOCREO sensors currently available are not waterproof. If you must place the sensor body inside the refrigerator, we strongly recommend waterproof protection:
- Wrap the sensor body (typically square/oval-shaped) in a waterproof bag
- Place food-grade desiccant inside the waterproof bag
- This helps prevent moisture from entering the sensor through structural openings, which could damage internal hardware

Limitations and Considerations
Even with waterproof protection, please be aware:
- Not 100% Guaranteed: Waterproof treatment does not completely eliminate the risk
- Communication Impact: Deploying sensors in enclosed metal environments may affect communication between the sensor and Hub
- Battery Impact: Low-temperature environments can affect:
- Battery runtime
- Battery lifespan
- Communication performance
Testing Recommendation¶
You can first test by placing the sensor inside a refrigerator drawer. If sensor data updates normally, you can proceed with deployment. Monitor battery consumption monthly; if you notice abnormal drain, please contact us promptly.
Part 2: Placement Guidelines¶
Whether deploying the sensor body or external probe inside the refrigerator, follow these placement guidelines:
Optimal Location¶
- Place in the center of the middle shelf space (above middle drawer if present, or center of middle shelf if no drawers)
- Keep away from:
- Evaporator metal walls (direct-cooling type)
- Air vent outlets (frost-free type)
- Avoid direct contact between probe and items in the cold environment to prevent item temperature from affecting sensor measurements

Summary¶
Best Practice Summary¶
- Preferred Method: Keep sensor body outside, place probe inside (for sensors with external probes)
- Alternative Method: If door seal is affected, place both inside with waterproof protection
- Placement: Center of middle shelf, away from cooling elements
- Monitoring: Test first, then monitor battery consumption regularly
